International Transmodern Shaman Academy
(at the the International Association of Healing Professionals)

The International Transmodern Shaman Academy at (IAHP) is an advanced program within the Acadamy of Natural Healing. The program is designed for those seeking to find greater happiness, contentment, meaning in life, and wisdom through the exploration of altered states of consciousness.

Using approaches he has learned over a half-century of experience, studies, and his own 15 year apprenticeships with Vincent Collura and many other shamans from different aboriginal traditions, Lewis Harrison, the creator of the program, has developed a unique, highly personalized approach to personal growth, human potential, meaning, spiritual exploration, and service to others.

An altered state of consciousness (ASC) is any condition which is significantly different from a normal waking state. In recent years it has become associated with hallucinogenic drug use, however, any individual can enter an altered state of conscious and access great wisdom while in that state, without necessarily using hallucinogens.

Using a wide range of tools including the 7 Pillars of Wisdom, meditation, chanting, trance-work, mandalas, hands-on-healing, intense introspection, and a constant re-evaluation of what is “normal” the Transmodern Shaman apprentice is taught to access inner guides that can lead them to greater love, kindness, compassion, empathy, wisdom, and appreciation of beauty.
Records of humans employing altered states of consciousness go as far back as 30,000 years ago. Mind-altering plants and/or excessive dancing were used to attain an ecstatic or mystic state. Examples of early religious use of altered states of consciousness are the rites of Dionysos and the Eleusinian Mysteries, as well as Yoga and Meditation. Followers of various shamanic traditions “enter altered states of consciousness in order to serve their community.”

Meditation in its various forms is being rediscovered by modern psychology because of its therapeutic potential and its ability to “enable the activity of the mind to settle down”. In many helping professions (psychotherapy, counseling, and life coaching) and personal growth seminars techniques like hypnosis, meditation, and flotation in specially designed sensory deprivation tanks are used to assist individuals in entering altered states of consciousness. Whether you are living in a rural area, surrounded by nature or in an urban area, at the International Transmodern Shaman Academy Lewis Harrison supports each student in developing a training format do that they may connect to their inner guides.

This program offers you the key to connecting to inner wisdom, and includes the use of film, video, Sacred Plant Work, meditation, introspection, creative visualization, trancework, Hands-on Healing, Qi expansion practices, and much more, all designed personally with each student’s needs in mind
.
Avoiding cultural misappropriation, spiritual materialism, and other approaches that place unnecessary emphasis on rites, rituals, ceremonies, and mind-expanding substances the program integrates Lewis’ own experiences with important research drawn from transpersonal psychology, which emphasizes the importance of interconnectedness of self with others, self-transformation, individual human experience, the validity of mystical and spiritual experience, and practices that expand a sense of love, compassion, empathy, the power of soul light over mind darkness, and the embracing of beauty wherever it arises.
